Cosmic ray propagation and acceleration
نویسنده
چکیده
This report covers the studies of energetic particle propagation and acceleration presented during the 27th ICRC in sessions OG 1.3 and 1.4 , plus a few selected papers from neighbouring OG sections. We list problems discussed within these sections and we shortly describe selected interesting achievements and/or novel approaches.

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...

This paper summarizes highlights of the OG1 session of the 30th International Cosmic Ray Conference, held in Merida (Yucatan, Mexico). The subsessions (OG1.1, OG1.2, OG1.3, OG1.4 and OG1.5) summarized here were mainly devoted to direct measurements, acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays.
متن کاملObserving signatures of Cosmic Rays using high-energy gamma-ray telescopes
Detecting gamma-rays from discrete astronomical objects offers the potential to directly study sites of cosmic particle acceleration. Alternatively, the pervasive diffuse gamma-ray emission component caused by interactions of cosmic rays with interstellar gas and radiation fields carries information about the spatial distribution of cosmic particle accelerators and reveals details about the cha...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Propagation of High-Energy Cosmic Rays through the Galaxy: Discussion and In- terpretation of TRACER Results
Abstract: The long-duration balloon flights of TRACER provide new measurements of the intensities and energy spectra of the arriving cosmic-ray nuclei with 5 ≤ Z ≤ 26 at high energies. In order to determine the particle composition and energy spectra at the cosmic-ray sources, changes occurring during the interstellar propagation of cosmic rays must be known. We use a simple propagation model w...
متن کاملCosmic Ray Propagation and Acceleration
Theoretical views on particle acceleration in astrophysical sources and propagation of cosmic rays (CR) depend very much on the quality of the data, which become increasingly accurate each year and therefore more constraining. On the other hand, direct measurements of CR are possible in only one location on the outskirts of the Milky Way and present only a snapshot of very dynamic processes. Th...
